Coxswains

The cox'ns are, by far, the most important members of any rowing team. They are the leaders, the motivators, and the commanders of the boat. Being a Cox'n is like being an officer in the military: you're automatically above all the enlisted personnel.

An ideal cox'n is a true lightweight (125 lbs or less) but has the attitude of a 200 lb tough guy (or girl). Aside from driving the boat, the cox'n is responsible for motivating the rowers and making strategic race decisions such as overtaking maneuvers, yielding maneuvers (but not this season!), power pieces, high rate pieces, and taking course corners.

NC State Crew is in need of dedicated cox'ns who are willing to put in the time and effort to become skilled cox'ns and leaders that are vital to the team's performance. If you wish to be a coxswain for NC State or know someone who fits the description, please contact us through the Contact Webpage.
