Aside from being a great way to get in shape, it is an excellent way to meet new people, and a chance to travel and compete all over the Southeast and East Coast. The team travels as far south as Orlando (for Spring Break) and as far north as Boston.
Rowing is a year-round co-ed sport with equal representation from both genders. There are many misconceptions about the sport of rowing because it is not a typical collegiate mainstream sport. The first of many is that rowers require a lot of upper body strength. On the contrary, the best rowers have very strong legs and are typically above average in height. However, don’t let any of this prevent you from joining. Many members of our team have beaten people much taller and stronger than themselves.
The sport itself is quite intense, as anyone who has rowed either a head race or a sprint can tell you. In order to be competitive, the team holds practices almost every day. In recent years, we have stepped up our time on the water, making the team much more competitive as well as the practices more enjoyable.
