| The crew team was officially recognized as a club sport in Spring 1988 or the 2nd semester of my Freshman year. Folks such as me, Bert and Eddy met weekly to find ways to raise awareness and money. We bought our first boat in 1989 - a schoenbroad 4. We were also given an old wooden 8 by ECU, given to them by Carolina, passed down from Duke - or at least I'm pretty sure that's how it went - I do know it had Class of 1914 on it... In Spring 1990, we went to our first regatta which was at Duke. I remember transporting the 4 on Eddy's Isuzu Trooper and bringing a pony keg to the regatta. I have a lot a great memories and lasting friendships from rowing at State and although I haven't sat in a boat in a long time, I still love it. I've been meaning to turn over old pictures etc from back then but haven't. I'd be happy to share. |
